Do you need a visa to work in Sweden?
Foreigners from countries with a visa requirement need to obtain a work permit if they want to be employed in Sweden.
Citizens of the European Union (EU), the European Economic Area (EEA), and Switzerland do not need a work visa to work in Sweden.
A work permit is not required if:
- You have a permanent residence permit.
- You have a residence permit for study purposes.
- You have a special residence permit to work as a researcher.
- You are an asylum seeker and have an AT-UND (exemption from being obligated to hold a work permit).
- You are a citizen of an EU country.
To be eligible for a Sweden job seeker visa, you must:
- Have completed studies corresponding to an advanced level degree
- Plan to seek employment or explore the possibilities for starting your own business
- Be able to support yourself during the period for which you are applying for a permit and have money to cover the cost of your journey home
- Have comprehensive health insurance valid for care in Sweden
- Have a passport valid for the entire period you intend to be in Sweden (if your passport is about to expire, you should extend it because you cannot get a permit for longer than your passport is valid)
- Currently, it is located outside of Sweden.
How do I apply for a Job Seeker Visa?
The application for a job seeker visa can be submitted online using the e-service at the Swedish Migration Agency website.
What is the cost of this visa?
To get a work permit, you need a job offer and pay a Sweden job seeker visa application fee of 190€. Most work permits cost around 2,000 SEK, or about $200. Most expats working for a Swedish company need to wait one to three months to get their work permit.
